A year at putitout - Ed Rigg

It is now just over a year since I started at putitout - and I thought it apt to say a few words on the matter.

First of all… Much has been learnt and still there is much to learn. There always will be. It is the joy of working at the forefront of the technology industry. We are building products that have never been seen before, two projects (soon to launch) spring to mind where we are realising the dreams of our clients, their ideas are thoroughly original and wholly digital, and we are responsible for them.  As well as an exciting place to be this is a huge privilege. I look forward to continuing to meet entrepreneurs, innovators and hearing new ideas, the possibilities really are endless.

Second, change is good and necessary. When I started we were reacting to demands of our clients, charging a fee to build and deliver a website and/or app, and invariably we did a great job. Now, however, we are working with our clients to define the product, completely understand the objectives and the business, advise on the possibilities and then come up with a project plan for roll out. We’re the digital house whose expertise will help your business grow, rather than the digital house who will build something for you. The difference is key.

Third, we are always looking for ways to improve our processes, learning from clients, each other and the industry - and we’ll continue to do so, and we’ll enjoy continuing to do so. In a forward thinking industry we can’t afford to be caught in the mud with the tide coming in, no one can. Acting on our learnings has got us where we are today.

Fourth, we have a top team (that like fun). Work hard play hard my Grandad always said. This is certainly the attitude of our team with the playing meaning a few late nights both working on pitches and at our favourite Soho establishment (not sure this is what Grandad had in mind). Charlie and Chris are innovators and our socials are second to none...whether a competition around London using an app we built to gauge interest from restaurants and pubs about emerging commerce, travelling around town rating each others locals, a trip to the coast for some sun and surfing, or table tennis and free Yoga on the rooftop, the social adds value to the work we do and pulls the team together. We’re fun to work with and our clients know that, and who wouldn’t want to work with fun people?

I think that’s about it for now, I wasn’t supposed to work today as Glastonbury called, but an important project kicked off and needs must… but its OK I’m off to catch a helicopter to Worthy Farm instead (thanks Charlie).
