Top of the Apps - Summer 2013

It has been a mega busy summer full of sun, fun, festivals...and digital.

Here's a summation of what the gang's favourite apps are and why. We hope you find them useful, and if you've got better ones or alternatives, do let us know!

CHARLIE

Hotels.com app

'I have used Hotels.com app to great effect this summer.   It works well, it learns who you are and it keeps surprising you with good features.'

Ed: For the person that likes to travel, and likes things to be simple and easy. Which is everyone.

CHRIS:

ESPN scorecentre

'How else am I expected to keep up with my favourite teams?! GO RED SOX!!!!'

Ed: Thanks Chris.

SAAD

Duolingo

'Learning a second language is always hard. A great app to learn new languages, try Duolingo.'

Ed: Every linguists' dream app.

ALEX

Citymapper

'It gets me places and has bike options which is really REALLY great.'

Ed: Alex likes to cycle. A lot.

EMMA

Sleep Cycle for iOS

'The decision was made to become more informed about my sleeping habits, and love the data I get from this app. Personal best is 96% - but my worst is 22%. Overall score? Must try harder!'

Ed: Geek enough? Thanks ej.

KATIE

Twitter

'Awful right?! I've unintentionally shied away from Twitter for the last couple of years, but am making new extra efforts to re-engage, the mobile app's addictive.'

Ed: Original Katie, really original. But totally agreed, the functionality of the Twitter app is great, perhaps even more user friendly than the website - it's so easy to switch between accounts.

ED

Bloom.fm

'Very fun user interactivity which looks great but more importantly provides a great function. That is, letting me 'borrow' any 20 tracks a month to listen to anytime. It costs £1 a month, but I didn't think that this would break the bank, and I was right. It didn't. Although do make sure you subscribe through their website, rather than iTunes.'

Ed: Because who doesn't like music? Am I right?

RUDY

Evernote

'Keep all your notes in one place, allows you to create, manage and share notes (an even folders) with colleagues. Evernote has also a section about food where you can save and pin (location) of the restaurants and meals you have enjoyed. It can be used on a number of platform, mobile, ipad, computers etc... and can be accessed at all time.'

Ed: Pretty darn useful all round.
